Brigadeiro

At the Celebration of World Carnivals, it is no surprise that the small circular Brazilian treat, Brigadeiro, would make its appearance on the buffet table. Brigadeiro was first made in the 1940s when there was a lack of ingredients in Brazil due to World War II. The treat was then invented by a few women in Rio that decided to make small treats with the limited resources they had, naming them after a known Brazilian revolutionary. Now, Brigadeiro is a traditional candy in Brazil that is served at parties for desert. The small sweets with a chewy consistency come in a variety of of sweet flavors, but its most enjoyed flavor is chocolate. They are very easy to make and can satisfy any person's sweet tooth. Just try making some of your own!

1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

1 tablespoon butter

3 tablespoons cocoa

1. Over medium-low heat, stir vigorously the three ingredients.

2. Cook the mixture until it thickens enough to show the pan bottom during stirring (it will be firm enough to stay together and not spread.) Pour into a greased dish and let cool to room temperature (or chill a few minutes in the fridge.) Grease your hands with butter and take small amounts of candy and form into 1 ½ inch balls.

3. Roll the balls in chocolate jimmies to decorate.
